Cathode Ray Tube
A cathode ray tube is a vacuum tube containing one or more electron guns, which produce a beam of electrons, and a phosphorescent screen used to view images. Electron beams are deflected onto the screen to produce the image of a waveform - this is called an oscilloscope. Radar technicians then study the waveform displayed on the oscilloscope screen to determine the location of an aircraft. The same kind of technology, though much more detailed and complex, is used to create television screens.
